Ohio falls in both bouts against Cincinnati
OHRG limited to lowest point total of season versus Cincinnati
The Ohio Roller Girls were given its first loss in more than three months June 20 after the Cincinnati Roller girls put up a strong defensive front that enveloped Ohio jammers and reeked havoc in the pack all game long. OHRG fell to the CRG Black Sheep 102-49. It was the combo of pivot and outside mid-blocker for Cincinnati that was able to rein in the Ohio jammers at the front of the pack time and time again which accounted for several jams that ended with minimal points for OHRG. Ohio made great improvement over its last matchup against Cincinnati. OHRG came out of the gate strongly and aggressively matching CRG in points early on and locked down the Black Sheep pack and jammers. The strategy worked well for Ohio allowing the team to pull ahead against the No. 20 ranked team in the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association 25-10 midway through the first half. The 15-point lead would be as large a lead as OHRG would ever get in the game. Cincinnati regrouped and went into lock-down mode on Ohio gaining lead jams and chipping away at the Ohio lead. The rest of the way through the first half, Ohio was only able to score three points and went into the break down 45-28. Penalties started to become an issue in the second half from both teams but CRG was able to keep Ohio, which is normally a second-half team, under control to secure the win. The loss moves the Ohio Roller Girls’ record to 4-3 on the 2009 season. The final home game of the season will pit OHRG versus the Ft. Wayne Derby Girls July 18.
