Recap: OHRG wins again, hands Sioux Falls, Dixie losses
Defensive bout ends in Ohio victory
Fans of the Ohio Roller Girls were treated to a nail-biting finish as the girls took the Sioux Falls Roller Dollz down to the last jam and pulled out an 88-85 victory at the Central Ohio Roller Hockey arena April 25.
The Ohio Roller Girls trailed for much of the bout but were always within reach using strong defense and clutch jamming in the second half. Sioux Falls took the lead late in the first half and held onto it throughout the second half. OHRG chipped away at Sioux Falls’ 52-35 halftime lead and tied the game at 80-80 with less than three minutes left. Ohio took the lead in the next jam and never gave it back.
Ohio was led by jammer Drrty Grrl who scored 25 points in a strong defensive effort by both teams. Wendra Woman, Kitty Liquorbottom, Barracuda and Pippi RipYourStockings each contributed equally with 17, 16, 15 and 15 points, respectively. On the defensive end, Phoenix Bunz turned out another strong performance with 30 blocks. Barracuda – 21 blocks, Chewblocka – 18 blocks and Triptease – 18 blocks, also reined in Sioux Falls with strong defensive efforts.
OHRG and Sioux Falls each put up their best defenses out of the gates keeping the jammers bottled up and the scores low through most of the first half. The Sioux Falls combo of Hollicidal Maniac and Pain Maker controlled the front of the pack all night long combining for a total of 54 blocks. Ohio was able to maintain its lead in the first half despite the impressive Sioux Falls defense until only a few minutes were left and Sioux Falls jammers Lil’ Miss Masochist and Inspeckta Beck piled on double-digit jams. Inspeckta Beck pulled out her 10-point jam in the waning seconds of the half after Ohio was unable to field a jammer on the track to extend Sioux Falls’ lead into halftime.
Ohio would not be discouraged by the misstep as the strong defensive effort kept Sioux Falls scoreless for three jams beginning the second half and Kitty Liquorbottom chalked up a 10-point jam and brought OHRG within one point, 52-53. The girls in green in black stayed neck and neck with Sioux Falls jam after jam until Pippi RipYourStocking outscored Inspeckta Beck 5-0 and tied the game at 80.
Jammer Barracuda toed the line in the next jam against Lil’ Miss Masochist and outscored her 4-0 to give Ohio its first lead since the first half. The lead would be all that Ohio would need to secure its second victory of the 2009 season.
Sioux Falls leading scorers were Applicious with 25 points followed by Queen Elizabitch with 23 points and Inspeckta Beck skating to 20 points.
Gang Green rolls to easy win over Dixie
Ohio’s Gang Green put up over 100 points for the first time this season against the Dixie Derby Girls and rolled to 120-56 victory proving extremely effective on both offense and defense against the girls from Huntsville, Ala. April 25.
With a game time temperature of more than 80 degrees Fahrenheit, Ohio came out strong with a 9-0 jam by HellionBOI. That first jam would set the tone for the entire game as Ohio shut out Dixie in 20 of 37 jams. HellionBOI dominated the first half of the game scoring 32 points in just five jams and leading all scorers for the game. Royal Pain contributed 19 points in the first half as Gang Green went into the half with a 67-24 lead.
Gang Green continued its domination in the second half as the heat in the arena seemed to affect the Dixie Derby Girls. Ohio was able to spread out the Dixie blockers making large holes for the Gang Green jammers to skate through. The Ohio blockers also found themselves in front of the Dixie jammers by slowing them down, hitting them out of bounds or knocking them to the rink floor all game long. All of the action around the Dixie jammers allowed Gang Green to prevent them from scoring in seven consecutive jams.
Blocker Jaden Blayz was a big part of Ohio’s offensive output racking up 27 assists, followed by reVulva (13.5), Hellvetica (12.5) and Red Headed Slut (12). Gang Green captain Handle Barz led all Gang Green skaters defensively with 13 blocks.
