Barracuda
All-Star Team Captain
Never trust a fish that bites.
Number: 00
The young girl that would become Barracuda was raised on the high seas, a daughter of a commercial fisherman who mainly worked the seas of the Atlantic, Carribean, and Gulf of Mexico. Her family met an untimely death when a mysterious explosion on their vessel caused it to sink off the coast of Nicaragua. To this day she is convinced that a US Navy torpedo was the source of this explosion and that they were targeted because of her family's philosophical yet benign support of communist revolutionaries in Latin America. Barracuda was able to survive thanks to her uncanny swimming abilities, after the explosion threw her beyond the the reach of the whirlpool caused by the sinking ship. She dove in search of the remains of her family but was too late- a large aggregation of barracuda had consumed them. However, rather than turn on her these normally aggressive predators seemed to have respect for the young woman. This convinced her that her family's spirit lived on within these terrible and beautiful creatures. She vowed at that point to devote her life to the study and protection of all marine life.
This led her to pursue a Ph.D in ichthyology at the Marine Science Institute of Nebraska. This of course required spending many years away from her beloved sea, surrounded by a concrete jungle. She quickly discovered that the only form of transport that evoked the fluidity, speed, and seeming weightlessness of swimming was rollerskating. Her superior grace, dexterity and power allowed her to quickly excel on eight wheels.
After returning to her beloved carribean to begin a research program she learned to her horror that the population of barracuda that was now her only family had been captured and sold in the aquarium trade. Her new mission was to find where they were and return them to their home waters, using any means necessary.
This led to an ongoing journey lasting many years throughout the western hemisphere, to all the towns with aquaria, liberating her adored creatures of the sea often using tactics considered illegal by civilized society. Barracuda is now a wanted outlaw in over 30 states as well as Canada and Mexico. Her most recent target was the Newport aquarium where she successfully liberated two of her friends in broad daylight during open hours by skating so fast that security could not stop her, and smashing with her bare fists the glass that confined the fish.
This is what has led her temporarily to Columbus, where she has joined with the Ohio Roillergirls out of admiration and respect for her teammates who share her love for skating and outrageous abilities on the rink. She will always be drawn back to the sea and is likely to leave without warning, but in the meantime watch out for her on the rink!
