Portia De Bossy
Number: 2003 A.D.
Tagline: I'm the boss of you!
Portia de Bossy grew up on the mean streets of Orange county California. Her father was a successful businessman who owned a chocolate-covered raisin factory, and her mother was a Mary Kay consultant and an active member of the PTA. Neither parent had much time for their precious Portia who was routinely handed off to negligent nannies and belligerent babysitters.
The early years of Portia's life were difficult, filled with timeouts, early bedtimes and runny macaroni and cheese. She was an unhappy girl until she met the caretaker of her dreams, a British nanny from Liverpool named Helen Despinamous. Portia and Helen spent every minute of every day together, dancing, laughing and practicing yoga. But they spent the majority of their time preparing for roller derby bouts. In the early 60s, Helen had been one of the fastest jammers in the U.K., and she was a skilled teacher.
One day, as the pair was returning from a theatrical production of Sesame Street, Helen was violently gunned down, along with Grover who had stepped outside for a cigarette break. As the ambulance approached, Portia knelt down to be with Helen whose final instructions were, "Never stop skating Portia...and always be the boss."
Portia was devastated. Years later she packed her bags and headed for the Midwest and set her sights on Ohio. Her only hope was to put the past behind her and to join the elite ranks of the Ohio Roller Girls. Portia found a new home with the Blackeye Bullies and in addition to being a topnotch skater is, quite simply...the boss of you.
