Surly raised herself in the mean streets of Akron. She knew from a very young age that she was different and that different wasn’t always an easy way to be. So, she went undercover in her youth as an overachieving honor student and member of various student organizations. But her real passion was her wheels, all eight of them. After school was spent skating on those rubber city streets and on weekends she was a rink rat. After high school she hung up her beloved wheels, and her fabricated niceness, to put herself through college working honest jobs like cage dancer, bartender and waitress (where her brusque and sullen attitude were viewed as alluring by some). It was in Columbus that Surly dusted off her quad skates and finally found an outlet where her ornery temperament, appreciation for body art and the love of those eight wheels fit right in-as an Ohio Roller Girl.
